Yarn: 4ply Sock Yarn ( 75% Superwash Merino 25% Nylon) from The Knitting GoddessJoy (The actual Knitting Goddess who does the fabulous dyeing) sells her yarn in 50g or 100g Skeins depending on the type of colourway you choose. She also does small size Sock Blanket skeins that are 10g each, so these socks could easily be knit from a 50g skein & contrasting 10g skein for the toes & cuff.

Yardage: Approx  255 yds Or about 60g OR roughly 233 Meters
Colourway;  Perfect Beach
Needles; 2.25mm Circs for magic loop Or DPN
Gauge; 7 stitches per inch & 11 rows per inch in plain stockinette (unblocked) on the sole of the sock.
However they are worked TOE UP, so gauge is only an issue if you wish to recreate my socks exactly!
Size; Approx UK Ladies Size 6. (I think this is about a US size 7 and a European Size 39)
The sole of my foot is approx 9.5 inches long.

Why Resolution Socks for the name?
Well there are 2 Resolutions attached to these socks…
NUMBER ONE; Every time I make something without a pattern I say to myself “this time I will make good notes & not have to wing it” And I totally fail to (see 80% Menace 20% Minx for further illustration of  Note taking Failure). For these socks I actually started to make some, very vague notes in my iPhone, then the touch screen broke & I had to send it back to Apple and lost the notes. So I winged it & got the second sock a little wrong. Since this Epic Fail I bought a little note pad & made a Knitting Resloution to keep it with whatever my current WIP is so that I can make notes as I go & not have them lost… I’ll just have to make sure I don’t spill anything on it & keep my Little Princess from drawing in it!
NUMBER TWO; The scales I have to check my yarn are analogue (with a dial & a needle ) rather than digital. They are actually the same scales I do my cooking with & for cooking they work fine. For knitting, however, they aren’t so great. The dial has 25g increments so there is a bit of guess work involved with checking how much yarn has been used.
When starting these socks I thought that I could get them both out of a single 50g skein & thought that I was right on target when I got to the end of the 1st sock. But it’s lucky that I had a 2nd skein of the same yarn, as I ran out of the 1st one with the last 2 rows of the final lace repeat & ribbing to go. So Resolution Number 2 is to buy better scales for knitting & only use them for knitting. (who wants flour in their socks?!)

Pattern;
Cast on 20 stitches (10 per needle) I used my favorite “Judy’s Magic Cast On
Round 1: *K1, kfb, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, kfb, K1* repeat for the second needle
Repeat Round 1 four more times until there are 20 stitches on each needle (total of 40)

Round 6: Knit All stiches
Round 7: *K1, kfb, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, kfb, K1* repeat for the second needle

Repeat rounds 6 & 7 four more times until there are 30 stitches on each needle (total of 60 stitches)

Needle 1 will now be the sole of your sock & Needle 2 will be the foot.
For all stitches on Needle 1 knit plain,so only Needle 2 instructions are given;

Part way through the Cross Hatch Lace

Row 1: *K3, K2tog, YO, K1* repeat between ** five times
Row 2: *K2, K2tog, YO, K2* repeat between ** five times
Row 3: *K1, K2tog, YO, K3* repeat between ** five times
Row 4: *K2tog, YO, K4* repeat between ** five times
Row 5: *K1, YO, Ssk, K3* repeat between ** five times
Row 6: *K2, YO, Ssk, K2* repeat between ** five times
Row 7: *K3, YO, Ssk, K1* repeat between ** five times
Row 8: *K4, YO, Ssk* repeat between ** five times

This is the Cross Hatch Lace pattern & should be repeated 7 more times untill your sock reaches the point where your foot starts join your leg. As this is a Toe Up pattern you can try this on as you go and make sure the length is right for your foot, but if you go past 8 repeats of the lace pattern ( if your foot is much longer than mine) then you’ll need than 60g of yarn.

On the next rows we’re going to begin he gusset for the heel. Needle 2 will still follow the Cross Hatch Lace Pattern and Needle 1 will follow the 2 rounds below

Round 79: K1, kfb, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, kfb, K1
Round 80; Knit all

Repeat these 2 rounds on Needle 1 ten more times, untill you have increased the total number of stitches on Needle 1 to 52 ending with an increase round, remember you should also be doing the lace pattern on needle 2 also. (Increase rounds are also the odd rounds of lace) You should end with row 7 of the lace.

We’re going to turn the heel next, this will be worked back & forth over Needle 1 only. I frequently mess up when turning heels through not paying attention to what row I’m on, so I’m going to write all the rows in this pattern as I find it helps if I tick them off as I’ve completed each row.

Row 1: Knit untill there are 12 stitches left, Ssk, turn
Row 2: Sl 1, Purl until 12 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row3: Sl 1, Knit until 11 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 4: Sl 1, Purl until 11 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row 5: Sl 1, Knit until 10 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 6: Sl 1, Purl until 10 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row7: Sl 1, Knit until 9 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 8:  Sl 1, Purl until 9 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row 9: Sl 1, Knit until 8 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 10: Sl 1, Purl until 8 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row 11: Sl 1, Knit until 7 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 12: Sl 1, Purl until 7 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row 13: Sl 1, Knit until 6 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 14: Sl 1, Purl until 6 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row 15: Sl 1, Knit until 5 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 16: Sl 1, Purl until 5 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row 17: Sl 1, Knit until 4 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 18: Sl 1, Purl until 4 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row 19: Sl 1, Knit until 3 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 20: Sl 1, Purl until 3 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row 21: Sl 1, Knit until 2 stitches left, Ssk turn
Row 22: Sl 1, Purl until 2 stitches left, P2tog, turn
Row 23: Sl 1, Knit until 1 stitches left, Ssk DON’T TURN!!

Go back to working on 2 Needles & straight into Row 8 of the Cross Hatch Lace Pattern then once you get back round to Needle 1 you have Round 100!

Needle 1: ssk, k2, K2tog, YO, K1 *Row 1 of Cross Hatch Lace* Repeat ** 3 more times
Needle 2: Continue with Cross Hatch Lace pattern

Complete the Cross Hatch Lace Pattern a total of 3 times then switch to K2, P2 ribbing for 10 rounds & Bind Off with JSSBO weave in ends & you’re 50% complete!

This pattern was written from some incomplete notes, memory & common sense… I’ve got no doubt that there’s an error some place! If you spot an error please let me know & I’ll correct the pattern ASAP! Thanks!

This pattern uses the same lace pattern as my Iced Latte Mittens & Iced Latte Beret – both originaly inspired by the Cafe au Lait Fingerless gloves (by Paula McKeever) -This Pattern should be for personal use only please.
